Jio Fiber customers will also have free access to movies and other video content of leading entertainment mobile apps
NEW DELHI : Telecom operator Reliance Jio is likely to provide free set top box with its every broadband connection to woo direct-to-home and cable TV customers, according to a source privy to the development.
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led company is slated to launch optical fibre-based Jio Fiber broadband service from September 5.
"All Jio Fiber customers will get complimentary set top box," the source said.
Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has announced that Jio Fiber customers will get free voice calls for life from landline, 100 megabit (mbps) to 1 gigabit per second broadband speed for subscription starting from ₹700 a month and a free HD TV set on commitment to an annual plan.
According to the source, Jio Fiber customers will have access to movies and other video content of leading entertainment mobile apps, whose subscription fee will be bundled in the monthly broadband connection rates and no separate charges will be levied.
Ambani during his presentation at the meeting suggested that while the offering was initially known as Jio GigaFiber that was supposed to bring default 1Gbps broadband access to consumers, it would now be available as Jio Fiber -- under which the most basic plan starts with 100Mbps speed. However, he did mention that there will be plans up to 1Gbps as well.
Jio Fiber pricing, welcome offer
The Jio Fiber plans will be priced between Rs. 700 and Rs. 10,000 per month to meet the diverse demands of consumers, the executive said.
